About this event
A moderate out and back hike with 2 miles & 500’ elevation gain going in, and the same on the way back. Homer Barar will be leading us on this leisurely hike along the ridge between La Habra Heights and Hacienda Heights.
At the midpoint of our hike is “HSI LAI” Buddhist temple. As the largest Buddhist temple in the Western Hemisphere, it is a very impressive and charming place. We will rest here to have lunch and enjoy all that this immense and beautiful temple offers. A buffet style vegetarian lunch ($10) is offered and the food is delicious. We will explore these tranquil surroundings before heading back to our cars sometime after 2:30 pm.
HSI LAI is a Chinese Buddhist temple - the name translated means “Coming West”.
Throughout the courtyard and walkways, statues & descriptions of Buddhist deities abound. Wandering the grounds leads to a peaceful garden, a joyful fountain, impressive prayer halls, a little museum, gift shop/tea room and more. The hill -top views are stunning! Check out more
